On your way, you can collect discs that can be used to create bridges allowing you to quickly cross to the needed area. The building will be done automatically, you just have to make sure there are enough materials in your inventory. If the discs run out and you keep running, you are just going to drown. Remember this and don’t let the thrill of the race cloud your better judgment!
